| STEC: SITC: | The programme which
SiTC developed for a consortia of ITE specialists as part of
the New Opportunities Fund (NOF). ICT Training for Teachers
Programme in Scotland is designed for lasting impact. It uses
the technology it seeks to promote, and the course may be delivered
completely online. It teaches about classroom uses of ICT through
case studies based on the Scottish curriculum. ICT skills are
learned and practised in context, as and when needed. The course
activities support teachers to integrate ICT into the curriculum
in appropriate ways. The design team have developed a metacognitively
rich learning environment which provides strong scaffolding
for inexperienced users of ICT. How ICT will impact on the delivery
of the school curriculum is a topic of major significance for
education today. How effective courses can be designed to assist
teachers to create powerful and ICT rich learning environments
for their students is a highly related issue. Our critique of
traditional, skills-based ICT training for teachers has revealed
major deficiencies in this approach. This has enabled us to
construct an online learning environment for teachers designed
to develop their understanding of how ICT can support learning
and teaching as well as the necessary skills base. | |
